Welcome on Lake Maggiore, land of charming landscapes, winding rivers, imposing mountains and green valleys. Here you have the possibility to make a lot of excursions, with tourist guide or by yourself. The Borromeo Islands are extremely beautiful: the “Isola Bella” with its monumental Baroque palace and the extraordinary flowered terraces of the Italian Garden and the “Isola Madre” with its spectacular botanical garden full of rare plants and exotic flowers, as the one of Villa Taranto in Verbania Pallanza, particularly famous for its azalea, rhododendron and camellia blossoms.
From the Vigezzo Valley, also called Valley of Painters, you can reach the neighbouring Switzerland with the Centovalli train, in a pleasure trip between pine hills and green pastures. Macugnaga, at the feet of the majestic peaks of Mount Rosa, is an old Walser colony. In Formazza Valley, near the Swiss border, there is the highest Waterfall in Europe: the wonderful Cascata del Toce. If you want to walk and trek, then you should visit the National Park of Val Grande, the largest wilderness area in Italy.
Have a good time at Lago Maggiore!!
